Further Reading: Art in the Underground

Art in form of busker musicians can be seen very frequently in Berlin. As frequently, as that one is thankful when people are creative enough to cite a poem. But there are different forms of art in the Berlin undergrund, you might not even not about.

Taking art outside of posh places and putting it into every day life- such as the underground- is great! It makes art accessibly for thousands of people, people with backgrounds that wouldn’t suggest them to visit museums normally. Therefore I like the initative of NGKB (Neue Initative für Bildende Kunst) very much. The NGKB exhibits pictures in stations in Berlin. First time I recognised it was in Alexanderplatz station.  Current expositions are in the stations Voltastraße, Bernauer Straße and Weinmeister Straße.

Getting away from normal arts, check out the action art project by Charlie Todd and his group “No Pants Subwayride” .

Or have you heard about the “Eichbaumoper”? An opera, performed in the station of underground line U18  between the German cities Mülheim and Essen. Check out the very good report from “Tagesthemen“.
