On verbal communication
Language is the most basic tool for communication among people. But beyond that, as Wilhelm von Humboldt stated, language means the medium for thinking and world view. Therefore language means the basis for all complex actions and processing of thoughts of human. Circumstances get connected with language. And without language humans would not be able to orient in the world. Language means as well identification, education and knowledge.
Nowadays, talking in high-level-language sometimes seems to dwindle away- especially under teenagers. But why, especially under teenagers does language change so fast? The answer is quite simple. First of all it is the phenomenon that in youth, people want to stand out from the crowd, from parents. Therefore language becomes a tool for basically behaving different. Far more important, and a reason why for example other generations did not have such a strong youth slang as today: Through globalisation not only goods but people, and with them their language move more freely around the world. Especially modern music and communication via the internet hence influence language.
That may happen through migration of single words, or a change in syntax or pronunciation.
If such a change of language is dangerous to a society is questionable. There have been a few incentives against change in langue: For instance in the 17th century the “Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft” targeted maintenance and recovering the German of old German virtues via language.
In my opinion, it is it should be considered that language has never been a static tool, but furthermore developing on and on. Language to my mind should be vivid and moving, but should be used actively, too. Actively in that case means, usage of certain words, especially the use of words should happen with consciousness.
Because language is the main tool for communication- it is as well a useful tool for manipulation. A very famous example to impact thinking of a society via influence in language is the novel “1984” by George Orwell. The fictive dictatorship uses the constructed language “Neusprech” to control and narrow communication and thinking of people.
